Just tried logging into three different non-GamStop casinos this morning and got hit with geo-blocking messages on all of them. Checked with a mate and he's seeing the same thing.

Looks like the UKGC sent out warning letters to about 15-20 operators last Thursday (12th December) specifically targeting sites that were still accepting UK players despite not having a UKGC licence. The enforcement notice mentioned potential £2m fines and criminal prosecution for directors.

Sites I've confirmed are now blocking UK IPs:

  • Silverplay - "Service not available in your region" message
  • Boomerang-bet - Redirects to a blank page
  • Cosmic Slot - "Due to regulatory requirements, we cannot accept players from the United Kingdom"

Anyone else getting blocked from their usual non-GamStop haunts? Wondering if this is temporary while they sort licensing or if they're pulling out of the UK market entirely.

This was always going to happen eventually. The UKGC has been getting more aggressive since the Gambling Act review, and frankly these operators were taking the piss thinking they could just ignore UK law indefinitely.

The £2m fine threat is real - they hit Videoslots with £1.3m in 2019 for much less serious breaches. Any operator still accepting UK players without a licence after those warning letters would be mental.

Got caught in this exact situation during the Australian Open back in January. Was mid-way through a tennis accumulator on one of these sites - had Djokovic and Medvedev both up a set, looking at a decent £400 return on my £50 stake.

Tried to cash out early when I saw Djokovic struggling in the second set, but couldn't access the site. Spent 20 minutes thinking it was just server issues before realising they'd geo-blocked the entire UK. Lost the whole bet when Medvedev retired with that wrist injury in the third set.

The frustrating thing is these sites were offering much better tennis markets than the UKGC-licensed ones. You could get live betting on individual game scores, first serve percentages, even ace counts for specific sets. Now I'm stuck with the basic match winner and set betting that most UK sites offer.

Been using MyStake since then - they've got proper licensing and their tennis coverage during the clay court season was excellent. Still not quite the same depth of markets, but at least I know my account won't vanish overnight.

Yep, same here mate 😤 Three sites blocked since Friday. Was expecting this tbh - UKGC been cracking down hard lately.

Rolletto still working fine for me though, their withdrawal times are mental fast (had £300 in my account within 4 hours last Tuesday). Proper licensed too so no worries about sudden blocks 👍

Looking at the enforcement data, this follows a clear pattern. The UKGC issued 47 warning letters in Q3 2024 compared to just 18 in Q3 2023 - that's a 161% increase year-on-year. Their enforcement budget also went up £3.2m this fiscal year.

What's interesting is the timing coincides with the new gambling advertising restrictions that came into effect in October. The regulator is clearly taking a more aggressive stance across all unlicensed operations, not just the obvious problem operators.

From a punter's perspective, the licensed alternatives have actually improved their tennis offerings significantly. Average market depth on ATP matches has increased from 23 betting options per match in 2023 to 41 options in 2024 across the major UKGC sites. The gap isn't as wide as it used to be.

Bit confused by all this - I'm pretty new to betting and was using some of these sites because the sign-up bonuses seemed better than the mainstream ones. Are the UKGC-licensed sites definitely safer for someone like me?

Also, what happens to any money I had in accounts that are now blocked? Is there a way to get that back or am I stuffed?

Lost access to my main site with £1,200 sitting in the account. Contacted their support and they're saying UK players can still withdraw funds but need to verify identity first, which is taking 5-7 business days apparently.

This whole situation is exactly why I've been moving my serious money to properly regulated sites. The convenience of higher limits and exotic markets isn't worth the risk of funds getting frozen or accounts disappearing.

Been putting bigger stakes through licensed operators lately anyway - hit a nice £800 win on Tsitsipas to beat Rublev in straight sets last month, money was in my bank account within 6 hours. Can't get that kind of reliability from unlicensed sites when the regulatory heat is on.
